RECYCLED WOOL
How to take care of recycled wool
Recycled wool can be hand-washed at a cold temperature of no more than 30 degrees using a wool and cashmere detergent. Remove excess water by gently pressing the recycled wool garment with a towel. Dry flat rather than hanging wool on a line to dry, as it will stretch out your wool sweater.
Recycled wool can be prone to pilling, caused by rubbing during regular use. Pilling can preferably be removed with a fabric shaver or a sweater comb. Brush recycled wool garment from time to time to get rid of dirt and dust, and keep it on a sturdy hanger. To refresh your recycled wool garment, gently spray the garment with a wool and cashmere spray to remove odor.
To store your recycled wool garment, fold the clean garment and store in cotton or linen bags in a cool and dry environment. Store it with cedar rings to protect it from moisture, odor and moths.
OpéraSPORT is committed to work with recycled wool. Our recycled wool is made from pre-consumer waste of garments and apparel which comes from excess material created during the steps of material- and product manufacturing, e.g. selvage from weaving, fabric from factory cutting rooms, or excess production and unsold items that might normally be disposed of as waste. The used materials are then shredded back and are in turn spun into renewed yarn.
Using recycled wool extends the life-span of the wool fiber, reduces the amount of waste material, and uses less water and energy in the process of recycling than in the production of virgin wool. In addition, since recycled wool is made by cutting up and breaking down used woolen products, which are in turn spun into new yarn, no animal is harmed or treated poorly in the process.
WHY RECYCLED WOOL?
Wool is perfect for colder days or evenings due to its natural insulation properties, it's ability to provide warmth in cold weather, its moisture-wicking capability to keep the skin dry, and its soft and breathable fibers that regulate temperature for a cozy and comfortable wearing.
Recycled wool is more environmentally friendly than conventional wool as it minimizes the need for new raw materials, reducing the environmental impact of sheep farming. By repurposing existing wool garments, recycled wool contributes to waste reduction and decreases the energy and water-intensive processes associated with traditional wool production.
