How to take care of recycled cashmere
Recycled cashmere can be hand-washed at a cold temperature of no more than 30 degrees using a wool and cashmere detergent. Remove excess water by gently pressing the garment with a towel. Dry flat rather than hanging wool on a line to dry, as it will stretch out your cashmere sweater.
Recycled cashmere can be prone to pilling, caused by rubbing during regular use. Pilling can preferably be removed with a fabric shaver or a sweater comb. Brush recycled cashmere garment from time to time to get rid of dirt and dust, and keep it on a sturdy hanger. To refresh your recycled cashmere garment, gently spray the garment with a wool and cashmere spray to remove odor.
To store your recycled cashmere garment, fold the clean garment and store in cotton or linen bags in a cool and dry environment. Store it with cedar rings to protect it from moisture, odor and moths.
OpéraSPORT is committed to work only with recycled cashmere. Our recycled cashmere is made from pre-consumer waste which comes from any excess material created during the steps of material- and product manufacturing, e.g. selvage from weaving, fabric from factory cutting rooms, or excess production and unsold items that might normally be disposed of as waste. The used materials are then shredded back and are in turn spun into renewed yarn.
The production of virgin cashmere has led to the widespread desertification of the Mongolian grasslands. As the herd grazes, it also prevents grass from regrowing, which also creates a high level of destruction. Recycled cashmere places less demand on the environment, and uses less energy, water, and has less Co2 output than the production of virgin cashmere. As a part of our sustainability commitment, we only work with recycled cashmere to minimize the environmental impact of our garments.
